The Freedom of Fewer Decisions
OPENING SCENE: Helsinki store. Jaana is sweeping the floor as Tara walks in holding a coffee and an existential crisis.
TARA: "I listened to this podcast over the weekend. About stress, overwhelm, workplace pressure, economic chaos, social media brain rot. Basically the state of humanity."
JAANA: "Light listening."
TARA: "His point was—we can't control most of it. But we can simplify our own lives. And while I was listening, I realized something."
JAANA: “What?”
TARA: “You’ve been doing this for years. Reducing decisions. You have the same breakfast. Same lunch. Same dinner. You’ve hacked modern life.”
JAANA: “I just know what works.”
TARA: “I used to think it was odd. Now I’ve eaten the same breakfast since New Year’s. No debate. No scrolling recipes. Easy shopping. It’s so simple!”
JAANA: “We make too many choices.”
TARA: “Exactly. Removing a few gives you space. So… thank you.”
(Jaana shrugs. Continues sweeping.)
TARA: "I'm holding auditions for lunch now."
JAANA: "Auditions?"
TARA: "I want to have the same lunch too, I hate deciding what to eat. More simplicity is my motto for 2026! "
ZERO DRAMA IN THE HALLWAY
JAANA: “We have a customer like that.”
TARA: “Who holds auditions for lunch?”
JAANA: “Simple wardrobe. Black shirt. Blue jeans. Every day the same.”
TARA: “I think I know where this is going...”
JAANA: “He owns one pair of VIBAe for each season. All black ones. No thinking necessary on the way out. Just puts them on and carries on with life.”
TARA: “So you always wear black because…”
(Jaana smiles.)
TARA: “Aaah...”
There’s a lot we can’t simplify.
But breakfast? (And maybe lunch?)
Clothes?
Shoes?
That we can.
Do you do something the same way every day?
