Here's a sustainable feature you might not notice: our footbeds are removable.
When they eventually wear out (as all insoles do), you can simply swap in a new Carbon Step™ footbed without ditching the whole shoe.

We know you're smart... so you're probably wondering
can you buy our Carbon Step™ footbeds and transform all your existing shoes?
We love the enthusiasm, but here's the thing: most other shoe brands use a built-in midsole layer, which means adding our contoured Carbon Step™ footbed on top will lift your foot up and probably make the shoe way too tight. Plus, our footbeds are foot-shaped with a wide toe box design, so they often don't play nice with narrow-fitting shoe models from other brands.
So sorry to destroy your plans, but you're gonna have to stick with us!
Quick Care Tips to keep your Carbon Step™ footbeds fresh
→ Take them out occasionally to air
→ Wash gently with mild soap and minimum water if needed
→ Let them dry completely (away from direct heat) before putting back in
→ Replace when they've lost their bounce

What's Next for Carbon Step™
We're not stopping here.
We've been working with Aalto University to develop a more sustainable footbed for our shoes, using a new material called FoamWood. This project started in 2021 and has since evolved into a major step forward in our commitment to both comfort and environmental responsibility.
Compared to traditional foam, FoamWood is more durable and sustainable. It provides excellent support and comfort, and its water-resistant properties mean it’s less likely to degrade with use. The production process also reduces energy consumption, is more flexible, and lowers costs, which helps us stay true to our sustainability goals without compromising on quality.
What is FoamWood?
FoamWood is made from wood-based fibers and is fully recyclable and biodegradable in natural conditions.
It offers a promising alternative to traditional foam materials, and its production process is efficient, toxin-free, and scalable.
The key benefits of FoamWood include a strong strength-to-weight ratio, water resistance, and adaptability to various fibers, making it an ideal fit for the high-performance insoles our customers expect.
This summer, Kalle, our CEO, and the Aalto University team travelled to Portugal to begin testing FoamWood prototypes at our factory. We’re eager to refine this material and move closer to incorporating it into our footwear.
By using FoamWood, we’re not only advancing our own sustainability efforts but also paving the way for a more circular economy in the footwear industry.
