Eighty, and still on the Saturday shift

Every Saturday, the Helsinki store has a queen on duty.

Riitta is CEO Kalle's mum. A true icon of Finnish retail, with decades at Marimekko behind her.

Then she retired. That lasted about as long as it took to notice that both her kids and their partners were running a shoe company without her.

The FOMO won. She claimed the Saturday shift, and she's been making the best sales of the week ever since. Armed only with charm. And a long-running feud with the digital cash register.

Riitta just celebrated her 80th birthday.

So we asked her the obvious question. Why are you still here on Saturdays?
