FIVE YEARS OLD AND FULL OF OPINIONS
OPENING SCENE: The founding trio are meeting up in our newly rented Helsinki office.
MINNA: Look at us, sitting in an office. Adulting.
HANNU: We are five years old now. Not a baby brand anymore. More like a kid with opinions.
KALLE: Do five year olds go to school in the US and UK?
MINNA: In Finland we start at seven.
KALLE: Great. That means we can just play around for two more years?
Hannu sighs deep.
HANNU: No. Time to plan like actual adults. Maybe even make a strategy.
MINNA: But what if it turns into a tragedy?
HANNU: With you two, anything is possible. So before we start, any curveballs I should know about?
Kalle’s eyes light up.
KALLE: I am finally signing off on the production of the FoamWood footsoles!
Minna leans in, whispering like a spy.
MINNA: I am also signing something today. A secret project. Could tell you, but then I would have to… you know.
HANNU: Another secret project? I'll send you some interesting data on the benefits of a strategy.
Minna raises her hand like a student.
MINNA: I have over a thousand unread emails.
Kalle turns to Hannu.
KALLE: She's never going to read it.
Hannu rubs his temples.
HANNU: Listen. We keep the fun. We just add structure. That's what growing up is.
KALLE: So what does this big grown up plan have?
HANNU: Forecasting. Calendars. Product roadmaps. Processes.
Minna blinks twice.
MINNA: You just said four scary words in a row. What if... I get a feeling?
HANNU: Then we see if the feeling fits the calendar.
MINNA: Feelings rarely care about calendars... I’m game if the strategy leaves room for a little magic.
Kalle raises his coffee cup.
KALLE: To being five. Old enough to know better. Young enough to ignore the rules sometimes.
MINNA: And to big secrets we cannot talk about.
HANNU: I’ll take what I can get.
